The Male' City Council has announce that, starting from the 20th of this month, officials would be strictly enforcing existing laws and regulations on littering and unregulated garbage disposal in Male', including issuing fines.
Law no. 2010/7 on Decentralisation, as well as Law no. 2010/11 on Anti-social Behaviour include provisions under which fines can be issued for littering and violations of garbage disposal regulations.
Earlier, the City Council had prioritised advising the public to respect such regulations, but repeated and wide-spread violations have prompted officials to take a firmer stance.
