The Male' City Council has issued a public tender to find a party to supply petrol and diesel for their vehicle fleet. The move follows the failure of Fuel Supply Maldives to supply fuel to Male' City Council on a regular basis.
The decision to tender and find a new supplier for fuel was taken at the Male' City Council's 95th weekly sitting, where members deliberated on the urgent need to ensure regular fuel supplies for their municipal vehicle fleet. The new supplier will be assigned after transparent bid evaluations, in accordance with public finance regulations.
Briefing members on the issue, the Mayor of Male' City, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that staff were facing major difficulties as a result of FSM's inability to supply fuel regularly, and that there has been no issues related to payments that have prompted this failure.
Elaborating on the matter, the Secretary General of MCC, Mujthaba Jaleel pointed out that, in recent weeks and months, City Council were only able to run their vehicles on two days each week as a result of fuel shortages, and that they had had to discontinue municipal services twice in recent weeks as a result of this shortage.
