Community Engagement Unit a big hit among Male' residents

The newly-established Community Engagement Unit of the Male' City Council has become an instant hit among resident of the capital.

The new Unit, which was launched on 14th May by Mayor Muizzu, has become a model programme of collaboration with residents in addressing issues related to road safety and municipal services. Staff have noted that people have come forth to work closely with them in resolving issues and that they were encouraged by the positive reviews for their work.

Staff inform that they work in shifts and are available across the city 16 hours a day, and that they are active in all areas of congestion and emphasis including the commercial and residential parts of Male'. Speaking with MCC Media, Community Engagement Officer Mohamed Rasheed said that they come across issues both big and small, but that, in the vast majority of cases, issues are resolved on the spot through friendly dialogue. He added that issues that become inconveniences for pedestrians were common, and shop owners were almost always cooperative in clearing up impediments outside their shop fronts when informed. He added that their motive was to keep Male' clean and to make it a liveable city for all residents.
