Male' City Council has officially appointed the popular music group Two of Us as the ambassadors of the “Chaalu Male” campaign, a public awareness initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness across the city.
The decision was made during the 194th meeting of the 4th session of Male' City Council, held on Wednesday. The resolution was passed unanimously.
Speaking at the session, Mayor Adam Azim highlighted the ongoing efforts to maintain a clean environment in Male' City. He noted that while considerable work is already being carried out, public awareness remains crucial in reducing littering in streets, parks, and open spaces.
“We are spending 60.5 million to keep the city clean, which is a significant portion of the total council budget,” said Mayor Azim. “Our ultimate goal is to eliminate littering entirely, and to achieve that, we must change public behavior. Awareness campaigns like 'Chaalu Male' will be crucial in helping us reach this goal.”
Mayor Azim also announced that an agreement has been reached with the band Two of Us to support the campaign. Importantly, he clarified that there will be no financial transactions involved, as the band has agreed to participate voluntarily.
The Two of Us band recently brought pride to Maldives by winning second runner-up at the Battle of Bands International. Their performance, which focused on the culture and customs of Maldives earned wide acclaim. The band is composed of five members and continues to rise in popularity.
City Council expressed confidence that their involvement will help inspire younger generations and foster greater civic responsibility among residents.
