The Mayor of Male’ City, Adam Azim, has issued an urgent advisory calling on all residents of the Greater Male’ area to wear face masks and limit outdoor activities due to a significant decline in air quality.
Recent years, the Male’ City area has experienced seasonal air pollution during this period. However, current data and observations indicate that the situation this year has worsened considerably compared to previous years. The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued alerts regarding the hazy conditions and reduced air clarity affecting the region.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mayor Adam Azim emphasized the importance of following the guidance provided by health professionals to mitigate the risks associated with poor air quality.
"I urge all citizens to take the necessary precautions as advised by medical professionals. Due to the current air pollution levels, it is highly recommended to wear masks and avoid going outdoors unless absolutely necessary until air clarity improves," stated Mayor Azim.
The Mayor Adam Azim highlights that high levels of pollutants can pose serious health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.
