Male' City Council has begun taking special measures to address the growing issue of public waste dumping in the vacant space designated for loading and unloading vehicles at the Ma. Hithilaage warehouse on Dhivina Magu.
The council has received repeated complaints about the large volumes of waste being dumped at that area daily. Dumping waste is considered illegal under the Act on Prohibiting Conduct Contravening Social Standards.
To address this issue, Male' City Council’s Community Engagement Unit is identifying individuals dumping waste in the area and taking legal action against them.
To completely eliminate waste dumping at this site, staff from the Community Engagement Unit are now present on-site on a duty basis. This action was taken to oversee the area and promptly stop anyone trying to dump waste.
While the unlawful disposal of waste on the streets and in vacant spaces of Male' remains a serious concern for the Male' City Council, the council stated that they will not hesitate to take action against those who engage in such activities.
