The Council resolves to include former FDC flat recipients on Male' City Special Registry.
Male' City Council has passed a resolution that individuals who acquire residential registration through ownership of a Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) flat will be recorded on the Male' City Special Registry (Dhafthar) when they eventually lose ownership. The decision was made during the second meeting of the council in its fifth term, which was convened today.
The council deliberated upon ways to deal with cases where a flat owner's right to the flat is terminated, for eg after failure to pay rent, after they have received residential registration of the flat.Speaking on the matter, Mayor Adam Azim said that the council provides residential registration to individuals who receive flats through the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation in accordance with ministry guidelines. He noted that questions arise when a flat owner later loses ownership due to unpaid rent and that, although such cases are rare, a process is needed to determine how those individuals should be accommodated and where they should be registered. The Mayor also stated that similar situations have occurred in the past and that the issue should be addressed by the relevant authorities.
The representative for the Hulhumale' North constituency, councillor Fatimath Zahiyya proposed to consult flat owners and representatives of the Fahi Union before deciding on the matter. She also highlighted that persons registered to reside in Male' Dhafthar are citizens of Male' City and this matter needs to be solved soon. Councillor for Hulhumale' Central, Ahmed Saneeh proposed an amendment stating that the difference between the main flat owner and all other registered inhabitants at the said address, shall be clearly indicated on the registry as their housing status is not equal.
