A window at Masjid al-Furqan in Malé was damaged last night, and the glass was broken.
The incident is believed to have happened during the night.
The Malé City Council has reported the matter to the police. Photos of the broken window are being shared on social media.
Mayor Adam Azim strongly condemned the act. Those responsible should be identified and dealt with according to the law, the Mayor said. He further stated that mosques are sacred places in Islam and must be treated with respect.
Mayor Azim also said that the mosques of Malé City belong to the whole muslim community and should be protected by everyone. He added that such actions are not acceptable in society.
