The Male' City Council has kick-started a city-wide mosquito control initiative.
The annual health and safety drive involves fogging insecticides had taken on added significance this year. The programme started on the 24th and is targeted at controlling rising numbers of Dengue fever in Male'. Earlier, the Health Protection Authority (HPA) had also warned citizens over the rise in Dengue case numbers this season.
The programme involves daily inspections of potential breeding grounds, as well as disinfecting and rectifying these areas to reduce the risks.
Fogging streets and public areas is also done daily in Male', Villimale' and Hulhumale'.
