Council Member Saif Faathih expresses concern over government's unilateral decision to drastically revise waste management regulations in Male' city

The Member of the Male' City Council for the North Galolhu Constituency, Saif Faathih has expressed his concern over the unilateral decision by Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) to revise waste collection and management policies and regulations in Male' city. "They did not see it fit to consult us", he said with dismay.

Taking the floor during the 53th sitting of the City Council, Saif Faathih noted that WAMCO had bothered to educate the public as to how many categories were needed to segregate waste, or other modalities. "A simple announcement with no details has left the people in the dark", he stressed.

Noting that the Male' City Council shouldered the responsibility for waste management and disposal in the city, the North Galolhu Constituency Council Member said that WAMCO should have discussed the matter with the City Council and allowed for a gradual transition into the new modus operandi to avoide confusion and difficulties for residents.
