Male' City Council to request the government for a plot to put up a fiber works warehouse in VIllimale'

The Male' City Council has decided to lodge a request with the government to acquire a plot in Villimale' to move the island's fiber workshops to a non-residential area. The decision was taken at yesterday's 55th sitting of the Male' City Council.

The matter was revisited by the Council after previous attempts to find a solution to health and safety concerns stemming from the close proximity of these warehouses to residential homes could not be resolved due to the government's rejection of proposed solutions by the City Council. The issue is to be raised again with the Economic Ministry in the hope that a new site identified close to the WAMCO area in Villimale' would prompt a more favourable response.

The issue of fiber workshops was raised repeatedly by residents during last year's Local Council Election campaign, as well as regular stakeholder meetings with residents. Environmental NGOs have also been requesting the City Council to find a speedy solution to this issue, given their tendency to pollute the environment.
