The Male' City Council has unveiled the designs of a new public park in Galolhu, earmarked for the plot of the old city park.
The park is to be designed without disturbing the vegetation in the area or the removal of the trees. The announcement followed numerous requests by members of the public, including residents in the neighbourhood.
Key features in the park include a children's play area, including designated areas for smaller and older kids. The development will feature a treehouse and a ride with wheelchair access. With ample seating throughout the park, parents can relax while their children enjoy the many facilities in the park. The seating will be specially designed as flowers and leaves.
The park will also feature an outdoor gym and a jogging track to facilitate residents seeking to utilise it for health and recreation. Toilets will be available for women, men and those with disabilities.
The park will also feature a special sports area, with a badminton court and a 3x3 basketball court. Below the sports area, there will be 102 designated motorbike parking and two commercial parking slots for cars.
Embedded wall lighting will ensure safety of the pathway between Salahuddin Mosque and the park. There will be adequate lighting throughout the park, making it a safe area for all. A special walkway will demarkate the park from the street, which will feature buffering plastic boxes that will adorn plants. The walkway will have designed access for those which mobility issues.
