The Male' City Council today held a special event to recognise the valuable contribution of the faculty and management staff of the three ward schools under their purview.
At the function, Mayor Dr. Muizzu handed over gift hampers to the management and teachers of the three schools, namely Maafannu Madharusa, Galolhu Madharusa and Ahmadhiyya School.
Today's function was held following the refusal of the government to a Male' City Council request to host a larger and more colourful formal ceremony to mark Teachers' Day in the three ward schools.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Muizzu said that the City Council attached the highest priority to undertaking their responsibility of oversight of these school, and that, from the moment that the management of the schools was devolved to the City Council, they had set about ensuring that all possible resources and assistance wad forthcoming to improving facilities and standards.
"We are ever grateful to you for your sincere hardwork. In building the next generation of responsible citizens, yours is a service that can never be overstated. We, therefore, wanted to hold a much larger gathering. Sadly, the Ministry of Education intervened and inexplicably stopped us from going ahead. We regret this and are disppointed by their attitude. Our only objective was to thank you all for what you are doing."
