A delegation of the Male' City Council is participating in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2022, which began yesterday in Barcelona, Spain. The delegation is being led by the Male' City Council Member for Hulhumale', Ibrahim Shujau.
The Smart City Expo - the largest of its kind, brings together policymakers and exhibitors from over 70 countries. In today's opening session and subsequent forums, the Male' City Council delegation briefed participants on the five-year Strategic Action Plan. A number of participants spoke on the importance of the Plan and pledged to support and assist the Male' City Council in reaching the key milestones underscored in the Action Plan.
Among the key themes of this edition of the Congress, issues such as Urban Mobility, Smart Techonology, Safe Waste Disposal and Smart Grids were issues that the City Council highlighted as crucial to realising their objectives for the betterment of the lives of the residents of Male' City. Initiated by the Mayor of Male', Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, these endeavours are being pursued as programmes and projects. Noting the limited resources at their disposal, the delegation of the City Council engaged in extensive discussions on synergies and partnerships in bringing new technologies and broader planning initiatives to the Maldives.
The Congress is scheduled to conclude on the 18th of this month. In today's session dedicated to Regional and Local Governments, the delegation of the Male' City Council hopes to reach out to stakeholders in attaining funding and technical support towards selected milestones in their Action Plan.
