Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Mayor of Male' City has said that he is extremely proud of what the Male' City Council has achieved so far, in the face of constant adversity.
"This ongoing fourth term of the Male' City Council, with a PPM majority, has so far achieved a lot while overcoming repeated hurdles put in our path by the government", Dr. Muizzu noted. Speaking on Channel 13's News Talk programme, the Mayor of Male' outlined the progress in implementing the five-year Strategic Action Plan of the fourth term of Male' City Council.
"As we near the second anniversary of our term of office, we can look back with pride at our many achievements, including commencement of most of the major programmes and projects in our Strategic Action Plan. We have, however, not been able to start some of our key priorities because of a total lack of support by the central government."
Dr. Mohamed Muizzu thanked the city's residents for their encouragement, as the City Council has found new and innovative ways to deliver on their SAP in spite of the government's delay tactics, petty disruptions, withholding of budgets and refusal to work with the City Council purely on political grounds.
"We dont discriminate on political lines. While we are able to fulfill most modest needs of residents, some of our most ambitious efforts continue to be shelved as a result of the government's stubbornness. Their refusal to work with MCC is a disservice to the people of Male'."
The Mayor pointed out that, on the contrary, he and his team were cooperating fully with the government and had never stood in the way of the government's development efforts.
