Funerary Rights to be shifted to Hulhumalé Cemetery with the Launch of Aasaharaa Mosque and Cemetery Expansion Project.

Following the launch of the renovation and expansion project of the Aasaharaa Mosque and cemetery, Malé City Council has shifted all the funerary rights to the Hulhumalé cemetery. The expansion project was launched on 27 May 2023.

In the public announcement issued by the council https://www.gazette.gov.mv/iulaan/242385, all the funerary rights will be shifted to the Hulhumalé cemetery. The council also issued an apology to all those who may be inconvenienced due to this necessary shift.

The decision to launch this expansion project was made by the council in its 99th official general meeting with the expansion project set to be completed within 2 months.

Under this project the prayer area for both men and women would be expanded while adding an ablution area for women. An additional waiting area for families of the bereaved will also be added under this project.

Under the current council, MCC places a particular emphasis on renovating, maintaining and upkeeping all the mosques within the city.
