Deliberating at the 41st sitting of the City Council, Members have decided to celebrate the 3rd of July as the anniversary of the Male' City Council. Members decided to pencil in the 3rd of July, 2022 to commence celebrating the Council's anniversary.
Mayor Dr. Muizzu proposed to celebrate the MCC's anniversary. He noted that the MCC and predecessor Male' Municipality had been a loyal servant of the capital city's residents. He emphasised the need to recognise the work of the Male' Municipality over many years, before the Male' City Council was formed under the new Constitution and Decentralisation Act. He added that the anniversary should therefore be the date of commencement of municipal services by the State, and that historical records confirmed that the Male' Municipality was launched on 3rd July.
