Mayor Adam Azim and Deputy Mayor Mohammed Areesh Attend UNDP Asian Mayors Forum in Beijing

Malé City Mayor Adam Azim and Deputy Mayor Mohammed Areesh have departed for Beijing, China, to attend the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Asian Mayors Forum. The event is scheduled to take place from June 11 to 13, bringing together urban leaders from across Asia.

Before departing, Mayor Azim spoke to the media, highlighting the importance of the forum. “This opportunity is a great chance to learn about and share the challenges faced by cities in different parts of Asia,” he said. “We hope to bring useful information to strengthen our community.”

Themed “Will-Raised New Innovations: Building Cities of the Low-Carbon, Low and Sustainable Future,” the forum will focus on sustainable development, innovative urban solutions, and inclusive governance. Discussions will explore ways to empower local governments to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the face of rapid urbanization and climate change.

Mayor Azim has previously attended the UNDP Asian Mayors Forum and views it as an essential platform for international collaboration. The two-day event will feature high-level talks, case studies, and networking sessions with mayors and urban experts from across the continent.
