Malé City Council has announced the completion of the first-floor slab of its new administrative building, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progress.
Mayor Adam Azim stated that the current arrangement—where council services are spread across various locations—has made it challenging for both the public and staff. “Delivering services from multiple scattered offices creates unnecessary difficulties for residents and hinders the efficiency of our staff,” he said.
The new building is expected to streamline operations and greatly improve service delivery. "Once all departments are housed under one roof, the Council will be able to serve the public more efficiently, and staff will benefit from a much-improved working environment," Mayor Azim added.
According to the Council, approximately 50% of the overall construction work has now been completed.
The new City Council head office is being built on a 20,000-square-foot plot of land on the southwest side of Thaajuddin Barracks, near the Council’s current public services section. The two-story facility will serve as the central hub for municipal operations once finished.
